Below are some useful soundbites. If learnt, these can be applied on every lesson / journey to help you implement sound defensive driving technique. This will not only help you pass your test, but ensure 'safe driving for life'.


For moving off and beginning manouvres, think P.O.M.  -   PREPARATION..OBSERVATION..MOVE/MANOEUVRE.

For junctions, think M-S-P-S-L.  -  MIRROR..SIGNAL..POSITION..SPEED..LOOK.

Minimum observations emerging from a T-junction, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT AGAIN.

For pulling up, think SAFE..LEGAL..CONVENIENT.

For narrow gaps, think LESS SPACE, LESS SPEED.

For parked cars and obstructions leave A CAR-DOORS' WIDTH.

For following distance, think  ONLY A FOOL BREAKS THE TWO-SECOND RULE! You should be able to STOP WITHIN THE DISTANCE YOU CAN SEE TO BE CLEAR.

When stopped in traffic, think TYRES AND TARMAC.

For cornering, think LOWEST SPEED BEFORE THE BEND, CONSTANT SPEED AROUND THE BEND,

                        ACCELERATE WHEN STRAIGHT.

For parallel parking, think ONE TURN LEFT, TWO TURNS RIGHT, ONE TURN LEFT.

For changes of speed & for hazards, check CENTRE MIRROR.

For changes of direction, check CENTRE MIRROR & RELEVANT DOOR MIRROR.

For moving off in traffic, check LEFT DOOR MIRROR, RIGHT DOOR MIRROR.
